About Dr. Matsumoto

matsumotoDr. Edward Matsumoto M.D., M.Ed., F.R.C.S.C., is a staff urologist at the McMaster Institute of Urology, St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton, ON. Dr. Matsumoto’s clinical practice focuses on the use of advanced minimally invasive approaches in urologic surgery. Dr. Matsumoto’s specializes in minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotically-assisted laparoscopic) radical prostatectomy, a technically challenging surgical approach which results in decreased morbidity compared to open surgery. Dr. Matsumoto completed his medical school, residency, and a Masters in Health Education at the University of Toronto. He then completed a fellowship in Laparoscopy and Endourology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Centre in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Matsumoto currently serves as  an Associate Professor of Surgery at McMaster University. His academic roles include that of Director of the Urological Laparoscopy Fellowship and Program Director for the Urology Residency Program. Since joining the faculty of McMaster University in 2004, Dr. Matsumoto has educated many practicing physicians, fellows, residents and medical students. This includes teaching advanced techniques such as minimally-invasive radical prostatectomy to clinical fellows and practicing physicians. Dr Matsumoto is also very involved in medical research and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications.
